| Mission
Statement: It is the purpose of Nishnawbe Homes Inc. to provide safe secure
housing for the Native homeless and under-housed in Toronto and to do so in concert with similar organizations throughout North America. Nishnawbe Homes works toward a housing situation that develops equity for both the corporation and the residents. It also develops within the housing units a strong sense of community and support in the context of Native cultural values and one that encourages an environment that is alcohol and drug free. Vision: 1. To provide a housing environment that is socially supportive and ecologically beneficial to all life. 2. Move to new levels of community self-determination in acquiring housing and in financing and maintaining properties and operations. 3. To become accomplished and self-directed in identifying and meeting special needs. 4. The Nishnawbe Homes community will develop a program for building public relations and awareness of its services and its vision. Facts: Nishnawbe
Homes is made up of eleven properties and Maddy Harper Lodge. The eleven houses
provide 53 units for Aboriginal women and men 18 years of age and older. The
houses are designed to promote a co-operative lifestyle among tenants. This
also creates an extended family in each household. For more information please contact: Frances
